James Cagney’s NZ — Free-Range Red Stag, South Island

7 Days  |  Hunting

From $9,500 per hunter (1-on-1)

Overview

James Cagney’s New Zealand Hunting Adventures has built a free-range operation on South Island with one rule: no high fences. Every animal hunted is a genuine wild population, and the 95-plus percent success rate backs it up — with a $2,000 deduction if the hunter is unsuccessful on rifle hunts on private land. The Red Stag package runs seven days with one-on-one guiding, cabin camp accommodations, all meals, beer and wine, Christchurch airport transfers, and all hunting transportation including helicopter access where needed. Trophy skinning and permits are included. At two hunters per guide the rate drops to $8,250 each.

THE EXPERIENCE

Itinerary

Day 1 (Arrival)

Arrive Christchurch; airport transfer to camp, settle in and meet your guide for a briefing on the terrain and stag activity.

Days 2–6

Five full days hunting free-range red stag across South Island private country — spot-and-stalk, glassing high country, and working the roar if timing aligns.

Day 7 (Departure)

Transfer back to Christchurch for international departure; trophy skinning completed before you leave.

Best Time to Go

March – May (roar season peaks mid-March to mid-April — prime for calling and most active stag movement)
